First grade artists are learning about the kinds of art that you find when you go to a museum. We talked about how artists can choose what subject they paint or draw or sculpt and often times they can be put into a the following categories; sculpture, landscape, portrait, or still life. If the artwork isn't meant to look like anything...it's abstract.
Ask your artist what the action is for each kind of art. It's been fun drawing mini-masterpieces with them to help make sure they can recognize subject matter and create it in their own artwork.

Watercolor wash a warm or cool colored sky paper. We practiced painting things you'd find in a country landscape. Artist painted trees, fences, cabins, and animals. We divided our paper into a three sections to help create deep space in our landscape. We painted a foreground, middle ground, and background. We painted our landscapes details onto our sky paper. We learned that size and placement can help an artist create a more realistic sense of space. Next art we will fluff on the snow white paint and perhaps a bit of glitter to make the snow sparkle. Great job Second grade artists!! |
